In 2019, in the night between November 12th and 13th, an exceptional high tide event called Acqua Granda (“high water”) hit Venice and its lagoon.
The AquaGranda project promoted by Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Science Gallery Venice, and Odycceus aims to commemorate the exceptional event as seen through the lens of social media. During those terrible hours, citizens, visitors and international users published a large number of messages, audio and video clips on social media, reporting personal experiences of the event and its consequences on the delicate balance of the city. These materials represent a collective digital memory for the inhabitants of the lagoon of today and tomorrow.
