AQUAGRANDA 2019

In 2019, in the night between November 12th and 13th, an exceptional high tide event called Acqua Granda (“high water”) hit Venice and its lagoon.

The AquaGranda project promoted by Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Science Gallery Venice, and Odycceus aims to commemorate the exceptional event as seen through the lens of social media. During those terrible hours, citizens, visitors and international users published a large number of messages, audio and video clips on social media, reporting personal experiences of the event and its consequences on the delicate balance of the city. These materials represent a collective digital memory for the inhabitants of the lagoon of today and tomorrow.

YOU CAN HELP US

Thanks to your contribution, we can support the creation and maintenance of a shared digital archive and of a widespread virtual exhibition that will preserve this collective memory forever. The navigable archive will preserve the collection of messages, images, videos and audio produced during those dramatic hours, making them common heritage and accessible everywhere, to everyone. At the same time, an exhibition spread throughout the city consisting of virtual works inspired by the contents of the archive will narrate the phenomenon. It will be an archive for the city. It will become a widespread exhibition. And you too can contribute to its realization.
